Business Class, a beachfront resort, one smart plan.

Barbados wasn’t one big redemption. It was several rewards programs working together.

Here’s what I did

One trip, several strategies

Instead of relying on one airline or one credit card, I treated each piece of the trip as its own opportunity. Alaska Mileage Plan miles covered the domestic legs, Air Canada Aeroplan points unlocked a Business Class flight to Barbados, and Hilton Honors points covered five nights at a beachfront resort.

Every redemption had a purpose, and no debt or risky moves were involved anywhere along the way.

Two people. Business class. Five nights at a beachfront resort. Retail cost: $5,101.15. We paid $386.84.

The math (two travelers)

9,000 pts
Alaska Mileage Plan, Atlanta→Miami, +$36.20 tax. Cash price: $234.
50,000 pts
Aeroplan, Miami→Bridgetown Business Class, +$117.22 tax. Cash price: $1,368.10.
50,000 pts
Alaska Mileage Plan, return flight, net $233.42 after a $40 Amex credit. Cash price: $1,813.04.
280,000 pts
Hilton Honors, 5 nights at Hilton Barbados Resort (5th night free). Cash price: $1,686.01.
$5,101.15 → $386.84
Total retail value versus what we actually paid.

The extra edge

Small advantages add up

A $40 American Express Platinum statement credit on an eligible Alaska Airlines purchase trimmed the cost even further. Not huge on its own, but travel rewards are often about stacking small advantages until they add up to something real.
